Some of my favorite operators from rainbow six :)
i love my boys <3
Hello! I was just wondering, how would the main three meet their player? Would their appearance in the M:PN world also be the Auditor's doing or would it just be like a "go to sleep and wake up in a new world" kind of thing? Also, love your work! Eagerly waiting to see what will happen next, but don't feel pressured! You come first! :D
Okay, so this got quite long. đ These hcs are a direct continuation of the last piece with the Auditor/Employers. I couldn't include everything I wanted to so I'm writing a Part 2 (which should be out tomorrow). This also includes the humanoid grunts I briefly discussed a while ago (shoutout to all the anons that were here for the deliberations, love you guys <3).
(TW: Yandere, Obsessive Behavior, Manipulation, Attempted Confinement (?))
While the Employers were all overjoyed to have you with them, it eventually became clear that you wouldnât stay with them forever.
You'd never seen them as frantic as they were the day you decided to leave. The Conductor and the Deliberator tried to distract you, one pulling you away from the entryway while the other started discussing what they'd plan to do with you that day. They already spent as much time around you as possible, but maybe they'd been neglecting you without meaning to? If you wanted more attention, they'd be happy to give it, just don't go.
Stygian would try to do away with their aloof attitude, as much as it pained them. They didn't like talking about their feelings, but perhaps if you knew how special your presence was to them, you wouldn't make this choice? (It was uncomfortable, to have them come out of nowhere and just tell you everything they liked about you. It was clearly heartfelt, but the way they tried to insist that you had clearly expressed your desires to stay with them too was just wrong. Have you ever told them something like that? You couldn't remember.)
The Auditor was the worst by far though. If you thought he was touchy before, now he was smothering. He'd have a hand on you at all times, gently guiding you back to him when you tried to slink away to reach the door.
You played along for a couple of hours but soon got sick of their behavior. Seriously, you had been in Nevada for a while now and hadnât even been outside. You had no idea where you were specifically, but you knew enough about the game to know that the Science Tower was a good enough reference point. Was it so bad to want a break from the Employers and some time to yourself?
They certainly thought so. But, try as they might, they couldn't ever force you to stay.
The Auditor relaxed slightly at the feeling of your strings fixing themselves to his limbs, only for his eyes to widen in shock when you tore yourself from his arms, pulling him between you and the other Employers. He couldn't stop himself from summoning a pair of guns (ones he would ironically recognize as your favorites), aiming them at the others as they bristled and tried to get around him to reach you. You just sighed wearily, keeping him between you and them as you finally walked to the door. You had enough trust in your abilities to stop them.
They tried reasoning with you. Telling you of how bad an idea it was, to leave them and try your hand at the carnage in Nevada. You were safest when you were with them, away from the constant chaos and unpredictable violence that came with grunts. Surely you understood that, right?
While they tried to talk some sense into you, the Auditor was trying his best to fight off your influence. His hands trembled as he strained to move against the directions your strings pulled him, but he couldn't even budge. His attempts to teleport and morph himself into another shape were only met with more of your strings converging on him, tightening uncomfortably as a warning to obey your will.
"I know I canât hurt you permanently," you started as you reached out to the doorknob, turning to give them a cold look. "But that doesn't mean I can't stop you from coming after me. I'm leaving, whether you like it or not. And I might've considered coming back if your behavior hadn't been so awful today."
They shrunk into themselves at that. They hated the thought of disappointing you. You proceeded without interruption, turning on your heel and swiftly leaving the base. Uncaring of the guilt left festering within the Employers as they stared in silence at the door. It's not like they could go after you either, the Auditor unwillingly standing guard, your strings lingering on his form.
You took a deep breath as you stepped onto the sand outside. It was blazing hot, the air smelt vaguely of smoke and you could hear the faint sound of gunshots and the odd explosion in the distance. A sigh left you as you looked out at Nevada's red sky. You knew your control over the Auditor would remain for as long as you needed it to, but predicting the actions of the other Employers was impossible. You had to get as far away from them as possible.
As you started to run to where you assumed the city was, your fingers flew to the prompts that lingered above your hands. Usually the only options you'd have access to were for attacking and dodging. But, to your luck, you'd decided to try out the "Not Enough Madness" mod before your computer decided to crash. Spawning your favorite gun and plenty of ammo was child's play (even if it was far heavier than you were expecting). Who needed the Auditor when you could summon weapons yourself?
Pockets heavy with the number of shells, and arms stinging from the weight of your weapon, you pressed on. It wouldn't do for the Employers to apprehend you so quickly after you escaped. No matter how badly they felt, it wouldn't stop them from pursuing these delusions that you'd be better off with them.
It was only after you'd made it to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Nexus City that you stopped to take a break. You were completely exhausted, caked with dust and sweat. Running for god knows how long in Nevada without any water was a bad idea, but it was the only option you had. You slumped tiredly against the wall before sliding to the floor, carefully placing the gun down next to you. Now, without immediate danger, you perused the floating icons that hovered in your vision (luckily it only took a small deal of concentration to bring them up, you couldn't stand the thought of having another headache). There were some useful options available: infinite ammo, floating, stat increases, healing, god mode. But there was one that piqued your interest the most. The Spawn Friend Menu.
You knew you'd be safer if you had some form of backup against the Employers. But as you pressed on the icon, you had another question to ponder. Who exactly would you choose?
The names of hundreds of grunts flashed across your vision as you scrolled through (though you were quick to skip past the Auditor, no thank you). The notable ones were all there, but it was more of an issue of who you could trust. The Nexus, AAHW, and Fanatic Units were there too, but it probably wouldn't be a good idea to involve yourself in groups that had connections to the Employers. You couldn't know how they'd react to a human either, with how different you appeared. (You weren't keen to be experimented on.)
You eventually stopped when you reached the names of your main four vessels: Hank J. Wimbleton, Sanford, Deimos, and 2BDamned.
It made the most sense to summon them considering how long you played as them in the game. The fourth-wall breaks gave you the impression that they at least knew who you were to some degree. You couldn't guarantee that they wouldn't turn you in, given that Hank and Doc took their mission from the Auditor to begin with, but you hoped they'd at least be sympathetic.
Deciding to just bite the bullet, you pressed the four names in quick succession. In response, your strings flew from your fingers once more, this time wrapping around each other as they assembled in four separate places on the floor. In a remarkably short amount of time, they'd managed to create rough structures of what resembled people. Taller than you thought and with actual limbs?
Your face scrunched slightly in confusion, but you didn't have a moment to question anything as the strings tightened a final time before loosening and falling away, revealing four very familiar grunts. You sat in silence for a second as you watched them catch their bearings (you had no idea what teleportation really entailed here, but you doubted it was comfortable). They looked rather dazed, peering around aimlessly (likely in search of whatever brought them here.)
The silence (as short-lived as it was) was uncomfortable, so you figured it would be best to greet them formally. Hopefully they'd believe you when you told them who you were.
"...Hello?" You were met with startled looks from the four, and you shrunk back in your seat. They were more intimidating than you'd been expecting.
While you were still with the Employers, in a far corner of Nexus City, the four grunts who'd been your most recent vessels had been freaking out. To them it always felt like an eternity when you were away, but they were sure youâd never been gone for this long. Usually they just busied themselves with gathering ammunition and other supplies, doing recon, or compiling mission plans to prepare for your eventual return. It was a way to be productive in your absence while still making sure you could use them at some point. It was also a convenient way for them to try and ignore the cold emptiness you left behind.
But that was only a temporary solution. They were in no way prepared to have you gone for weeks.
Deimos and Sanford were a lot antsier than they usually were (which is definitely saying something, considering how they act when you're gone for only a few hours). Sanford was a ball of nerves, mind racing with questions about what you could be doing. Did something happen to you? Were you okay? What if you needed their help?
Even with Deimosâ pyrokinesis, he felt like he was close to getting hypothermia. He couldnât stop himself from fixating on how freezing it was without you. He packed on more layers of clothing and nearly set himself entirely on fire to mimic a fraction of the warmth you gave him.
He and Sanford were suffering from a severe lack of sleep, your absence making them too uncomfortable to get more than a few minutes of rest. Even worse, their conversations only consisted of worried discussions about you, which only exasperated their issues.
Hank was always extremely irritable whenever youâre away, heâs been like that since he first experienced you leaving. But now heâs terrifying, tearing through every unimportant grunt that gets in the way of him finding your new vessel. He doesnât question your thought process, but the only reason youâd be away from any of them would be if you were with someone else, right? If he has to destroy everyone else in Nevada to get you back, it won't be an issue.
2BDamned now has to deal with the others simply refusing to go on missions. Deimos and Sanford just wonât leave the base, and Hank is never there long enough to receive any instructions. Ordinarily heâd be pissed off, but he got where they were coming from. The Player was instrumental in destroying the Nexus Core. If you werenât there, what was the point of doing anything?
Doc generally tended to deal with your absence pretty well. You hadnât used him as your vessel as often as the others, so while he did long to have you accompany him, he trusted that you could take care of yourself. He buried himself in his work as an attempt to stop from thinking too much about you, yes, but he had to find some way to cope. However, he ran out of things to occupy himself with when they paused their operations. He had no choice but to ponder your absence.
None of the four were really in the best state of mind, plagued with exhaustion and restlessness as they tried to figure out where you were or why you hadnât come back.
However, you would soon quell these worries they had.
They were all at the base when it happened. Cracks formed along the walls of the room, and they stood up, reaching for their weapons in case it was another attack. They were all dumbfounded when what they recognized as your strings exploded from the walls in a burst of familiar warmth, beginning to attach themselves to their limbs.
They were ecstatic at first, this meant you were returning to them, right? (They didnât have time to question why they were targeting everyone instead of a single vessel, or why they didnât feel your presence directly.)
Usually they would come from somewhere above them, but now they erupted from all sides. And they didnât stop with their hands, iridescent threads looping continuously around their bodies and tightening. It wasnât uncomfortable (they knew youâd never hurt them, so why would the instruments you used to control them pose a threat?), but it was weird.
Relieved expressions switch to panic when the lines start to go higher, beginning to obscure their vision. They couldnât even attempt to pull them away from their faces, your control halting them from moving a muscle. Paralyzed beneath your strings, they held their breath as everything tightened almost painfully, completely blind to what was happening once their vision went dark. They felt a strong tug, and then, nothing. It was like all of their senses went completely blank for a moment.
Then, as quickly as they'd come, the strings finally loosened and left them completely. The first things they saw were the dusty cracked walls of another building, but it wasn't notable enough to know where exactly it was. The quick change in location had caused a feeling of nausea, and their vision was blurry as they blinked to adjust to the dim lighting. Just as Deimos was going to ask the others if they knew where the hell they had landed, they heard a familiar voice from the other side of the room.
âHello?â
They whirled around to face the other person in the room, halting in shock when they saw who it was. After listening to your voice for months and seeing you (whether it be through that monitor in the Auditorâs office or the photos they had stolen), they had memorized every facet of your being that they had access to. Of course they recognized you.
There was no doubt in their minds that, sitting there on the dingy floor of a Nevada warehouse, was their Player.
You looked at each other in silence for a while. They were trying to process what was actually happening, unbeknownst to how uncomfortable you felt with their calculating stares. You flinched when they moved, silently coming closer to you with small steps. Why werenât they saying anything?
Deimos was the first to reach you, slowly kneeling down to get a closer look at you while your eyes darted around to observe all of them. âI-you...Itâs really you,â he breathed almost reverently, and you hesitantly lifted your head to lock eyes with his visual cross. You blinked and nodded, lips quirked slightly in a nervous (and confused) smile.
Clearly observing your bewilderment, 2BDamned sighed. âYouâre really the Player, is what he meant.â (He made a mental note to reprimand Deimos for his eloquent first impression. He didnât want their actions to give the impression that they were fools or anything. The last thing he wanted to do was make you regret your decision to call upon them.)
When your eyes met the lenses of his mask, he felt an odd stirring in his chest. It got worse when you visibly relaxed at his words, a smile spreading into one that mimicked what he saw in the photographs the others brought back before.
"Yeah, I'm your Player." (Unfortunate choice of words, but you didn't realize that yet.)
From there, you had tiredly explained why you were in the warehouse, the others listening intently as you described the actions the Employers had done towards you. Their blood boiled with rage when you got to how they wouldn't let you leave their sides (how dare they try to keep you from your rightful vessels).
Even worse was the look of discomfort that crossed your features when you talked about them. Sanford was quick to put a supportive hand on your back, rubbing comforting circles while you spoke, and Deimos inched a bit closer to your seated form, lightly pressing his thigh against yours. 2BDamned shared a knowing glance with Hank, who was just itching to go find the Employers and enact whatever form of revenge you'd want him to. (He didn't know if he could kill them, but he'd sure as hell try.)
Truthfully, they were all still star-struck at the fact that you were actually there sitting with them. You'd been on their minds for such a long time, but they never really expected that they'd see you in person. They were filled with a mixture of shock and elation, and they desperately wanted to let you know how grateful they were for your help in the past. But that could wait.
You were still in danger, and you both knew that you'd be the safest with them. (That's why you summoned them, right?) They've relied on you for so much, now it was their turn to support you.
The Employers clearly weren't the smartest, judging by how they treated you. Fortunately for your vessels, they knew better than to make the same mistakes the Auditor had. They'd get so close to you that you'd never even think about leaving. And they'd gladly take care of anyone who threatened to separate you.
You chose them out of everyone else in Nevada. It only made sense for them to assist you by any means necessary.
obsessed with the concept of being haunted by yourself
The heat from the explosion burned my hands as I tried to keep it at bay. I knew it was futile even with the force. The explosion would consume me, and the bad batch.
Maker, I never wanted them to find out this wayâŚbut if it meant they survived and be safe. Then so be it.
I heard Hunter call out to me, fear dripping in his words. When I looked back at him, I could see it in all of their faces, I mean, I would be pretty surprised if all of the sudden their medic grew a pair of wings and could use the force too. But, seeing their faces only solidified my choice, I made a promise when we first met and I intend to keep it. No matter what.
Reaching back towards the bad batch, I felt the tears running down my face. I think they may have realized what I was doing too, as Crosshair staggered to his feet in an attempt to reach me. Desperation painted on his face as he tried to get up.
âI love you⌠Goodbye,â I said with a smile, as I reached out with the force to push them back as far as they could go. At this moment, I felt peace⌠I knew they would be safe and thatâs all that mattered to me. I closed my eyes as the explosion consumed me. Pain then peace
