Hold the die, your turn to roll Before they fall through your fingers Not a good night to lose control Right as the earth is unraveling You play with your blocks until they break And these walls come tumbling down Oh, they're tumbling down
You're out of time, make your move Live or die while the fuse is lit and there's no turning back
Kiss your perfect day goodbye Because the world is on fire Tuck your innocence goodnight You sold your friends like guns for hire Go play with your blocks And now you'll pay when these walls come tumbling down Oh, they're tumbling down

Born leader or not, Claire knew what something like this could do to the psyche. Granted, he was older than she had been. Maybe that would help him get through. But what if it didn’t? There was no time to think about that now, though. He was speaking and it wasn’t the cynical, venom-filled rhetoric from earlier. Again, not that she blamed him. He was being held because of his knowledge. As he spoke, Claire held that eye contact, hoping it would shed light on just how genuine she was about helping him. Truth be told? Claire’d never put much faith in the government. She had plenty of reasons for that. Add ‘holding blameless survivors like they’re suspects or something’ to that ever-growing list… And while he may have been right about a military team who wasn’t trained for something like this, Claire knew otherwise. The BSAA, founded by her brother Chris and his long-time work partner Jill Valentine, had already agreed to help. They knew the risks, but they also knew how to deal with things like this better than the military. They’d seen it before, were trained to take down things most people would only see in their nightmares. They were just waiting for the call, waiting for Claire to pass judgement on whether this was as real as it seemed. Her priority, at the moment, was getting Jason’s story and getting him out, along with the rest of whoever had survived this. Whatever had happened to them, coupled with the ongoing war? TerraSave was needed here. She could already safely make that conclusion. The BSAA could wait a little longer. She didn’t bother to speak on his warning, instead taking time to scrawl ‘ancient territory’ across the first line before turning her eyes back to him. “You start wherever you’re comfortable, Lieutenant. If you think it’s important, I wanna hear it. And I need you to understand that I’ll believe you, no matter how crazy or out-there you might think your story sounds. Remember that I am not with them. I’m not here to force a narrative…”
Jason’s gaze briefly lowered. A small check to see what was being scrawled to paper, a hint at his paranoia and mistrust. The government certainly hadn’t given him reason to believe in anything like fair treatment and he expected much the same from here. Much as he could he’d glance what was written to check whether his words were being twisted...
“Right.” he quietly replied, displacing his cap to shove his hand through his hair in an aggravated little swipe. The more Redfield pushed for his trust the more he was leaning into believing her. Maybe the woman had a good heart under all this. Maybe she was willing to hear him out. Was a damn shame she happened to step in after the dozens of other interviews that had wound him to this point.
“We were ambushed. Under enemy fire.” he began, giving some small context as to how it all happened and why they remained as long as they had. “Then there was an earthquake. Big enough t’... shake the ground right out from under my feet, anyway. The earth opened up and me an’ my team fell down into what we thought were caves at first.”
There was so much to cover. So much to explain. It wasn’t all fresh in his mind and he forgot to include some important pieces, like how Merwin’s shredded and bloodied body had drawn the creatures to them. How Clarice, who stood there quiet and not looking like a target at all was snatched up like nothing.
“... Salim made a comment about the place. Said it was a temple, thought maybe Sumerian.” What had been buried deep below the earth survived all that time. He mentioned the evidence of an archaeological team. How it was their equipment Caelus picked up as the false positive... details not necessarily important to Claire’s investigation, but important to Jason who was still sorting the jumble out in his mind. “... It was in the deepest cavern where I saw it for myself. No — used it for myself, I know it’s true. Th’ UV wands Eric had on him? Next best thing other than direct sunlight, it’s their weakness.”
Me in Jason and Salim’s tags realising who the fan favourite ship is...
