→ Star Wars Atlas (2009) - Galactic Regions → Interesting notes:  Location of many notable planets, the layers of galatic regions → This is a selection of maps showing the sectors of Star Wars’ galaxy, radiating outward from the center.  While no longer strictly canon (as of April 25, 2014) it still gives a good idea of what planets are where.  It can be especially helpful if you want to find a planet that’s nowhere near Coruscant to strand your characters on or if you want to find a more densely populated world near the center of everything!  Or if you just want to know how close a specific planet is to the center of the galaxy. ✦ Deep Core:

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:

IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.

1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.

2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.

3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”

4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”

5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.

TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.

Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

On Writing tCW Dialogue

I’ve gotten several (very lovely) comments asking me how I write dialogue for various tCW characters, so I thought I would explain my process here. This isn’t going to include things like technical terms used in the SW universe, just the general flow of conversation. I find that Obi-Wan’s, Anakin’s, Ahsoka’s, and Maul’s speech patterns all pretty diverse (and also the one’s I’m most personally familiar with), so those are the characters who I’ll be covering. This is not meant as an authoritative statement about their canonical characterisations, but rather how I, specifically, feel their personalities work best while writing them. If you disagree with something I’ve said in this write up, you can feel free to disregard it. This post is going to cover their general speech patterns, some body language, and also what tends to motivate them during conversation.

i get that you're angry about the racism in the republic commando books but it's good to remember that we've improved so much since then and those books were written over a decade ago. all the recent surges of diversity in star wars is wonderful, but we won't make progress if people continue to pick away at every little problem of something written so long ago

Ah yes, the "improvements":

- every terrible racist tweet or post that ended up bullying Kelly Marie Tran off of social media

- all the recently published books that STILL play into the 'white saviour' trope, too many to count, and believe me, I read a lot

- Mandalore in TCW. just going to leave this here and not elaborate bc I could write entire books about this white-washed, uniform ridiculousness

- the clone wars writing decision to have the only character with a Muslim name (who is presented as wearing clothing that is obviously modelled after traditional Islamic garment + a head covering) being the one to blow up the Jedi temple in an act of terrorism

- and if that isn't new enough, let's talk about s7 and the Martez sisters and the symbolism to drug dealing stereotypes

- and if that isn't new enough, let's talk about fandom and the fact that minorities are constantly talked over and marginalised, even in online spaces

- the fact that I have an ask box with over 50 unanswered asks - and at least half are baiting, nasty statements about religion or the middle east or something

- still not convinced? just look in the replies for every tweet John Boyega has made since he was cast as Fin

Idk about y'all, but I don't look at these things and think "progress".

My point is, in case it's not clear, that racism and other problems in content, fandom, and other media sources was not some one time thing with the repcomm novels. The fact that it was written over a decade ago doesn't really matter if things haven't improved much since then.

The underrepresentation has gotten somewhat better since those books were written, but it doesn't feel like any sort of advance or victory when official writers and fandom's response to attempts to diversify the GFFA have been so appalling - or when writers take the characters of colour they've created and either write them into the background or write them with racist and fetishy undertones.

I’ve seen Horny Internet Fangirls fall physically in lust with everything from standard hunks to weird cartoons to robots to monsters and every body type from potbelly bear to skeletal beanpole and it never fails to amaze me, when by comparison, straight guys seem to have trouble with any woman who isn’t hourglass shaped

The days without club activities were honestly quite boring. Studying wasn’t enough to fill up your free time, so when you heard a knock on your door you were really excited. 

That was, until you saw Tendou, Ushijima, Goshiki, and Semi on the other side. You had half the mind to just slam the door in their faces.

“[Name]-chan! We need your help. It’s urgent!” Tendou pleaded and Goshiki nodded his head in agreement with the senior’s words. Ushijima remained impartial while Semi averted eye contact and shoved his hands into the pockets of his track pants.

“What is it…” You were slightly hesitant in what they wanted. Very rarely would they be presenting themselves in front of you like this.

“You’re bored right? I can tell you’re bored.” Tendou pestered this time, trying to sway you to join them.
