Thank you for posting this summary, I was really confused about what was going on.
To me, this is just a huge PR fuckup.
You see, I am the target audience for this stuff. It's insanely uplifting. The usual ads with super-successful perfectly fit happy people make me want to puke. Instead, I feel seen. To me, this thing says, "So, you want to die? How about, instead, you put on a colorful T-shirt and go play a sport? I won't promise you'll get insanely fit and happy. But I think... If you feel like you're falling, you will, perhaps for just half an hour, feel like you're flying".
But again, this is the PR department's job. They were not doing it well if they approved this stuff and did not realize (or ignored) that other people, ones that are NOT like me, will interpret this message differently, and not in a good way.
Just so very sad that it turned out like this.
The launch of Andrey Rublev's new Rublo collection needs to be talked about. How someone found it necessary to show Andrey crying, jumping off a cliff in a suicide-like attempt, and combining that with some very charged pieces of text to sell t-shirts with maps on them is frankly shocking to me.
Add the questionable sizing of the brand, as talked about here by this Twitter user; Andrey Rublev is very close to selling a product that seems to be pro-Ana, pro-suicide, and that profits off bad mental health.
There are other ways of selling t-shirts.
I'm aware that the profits go to charity, but for a man whose motto is 'play for the kids, play for the light' he is not doing a very good job of being a healthy role model for said kids.
Give your money to other charities instead, Rublo is a big pass for me.
(Disclaimer: I know that Andrey does know how to play chess. It's just that the picture has such overwhelming meme potential that I can't let it go to waste!)
