One of my favorite movies of the year and of my entire life

Parasite (Bong Joon-ho, 2019)

Un film coreano che ha conquistato il grande pubblico in questi ultimi anni è sicuramente "Parasite" di Bong Joon-ho.

Autore di film validissimi come "Memorie di un assassino", thriller che mostrava l'inadeguatezza delle forze dell'ordine, oppure il malinconico "Madre", che mostrava la determinazione di una mamma che cerca in tutti I modi di salvare il figlio accusato di omicidio.

Ma con "Parasite" Bong Joon-ho raggiunse il vero successo tant'è che vinse 4 premi Oscar.

Ma di cosa parla esattamente Parasite? Il film ci mostra la famiglia dei Kim, composta da marito, moglie e due figli. Una famiglia povera, che vive in un malconcio seminterrato tirando avanti con piccoli lavoretti, finchè un giorno un amico di Ki-woo, il figlio, riceve una proposta da un suo amico e cioè sostituirlo per dare lezioni private alla figlia di una coppia facoltosa, i Park. Ki-woo approfitterà di questa occasione per cercare di far assumere anche il resto della famiglia e pian piano tutti i Kim si inseriranno nella villa dei Park.

Bong Joon-ho in questa pellicola mostra quanto possano essere enormi le differenze sociali nella societa coreana mischiando thriller, grottesco e ironia tagliente, il tutto messo in scena con grande maestria, una regia maniacale dove ogni dettaglio è inserito con precisione quasi geometrica.

Un film che va assolutamente visto e che può essere apprezzato anche da chi non ama particolarmente il cinema asiatico.

it's so refreshing to see a black female as a love interest, especially one who is so well-written. it makes me emotional because the plot portrays one of nasha's greatest strengths -love- not as a weakness, but as something so powerful that it holds the entire story together while not reducing her to just "one layer" but rather portraying her as a much more complex character. i hope nasha barridge brings a new wave of black female characters she's that important!!

Spoilers below

Not as good as I was hoping. Pretty wiggly script that drops a couple of relationships and plots (what was up with Kai???). Close-up obsessed cinematography that makes the interior spaces seem totally insubstantial (although it does thrive in the exteriors). Disjointed editing with weird, awkwardly-timed flashbacks. The coloration is a little off so the whole thing seems dull.

That said, a lot of great performances. Collette and Ruffalo stand out, the only two who feel really at home with the unclear tone of the movie. Pattinson is impressive in his switching between roles and the clear distinction that appears between his double protagonists. Ackie had a great manic energy that would have served her well if her character made sense. Beyond that, though, it's a sometimes boring and occasionally poignant, but mostly shallow exploration of a concept that could probably have done better with a clear tonal vision and less muddled script.
