We're reading Frankenstein in my college lit class and the topic of the creature's appearance came up. We were arguing about whether or not he was truly hideous. Some of us thought he looked relatively normal, but with scary eyes and some scarring while others thought he looked more like your stereotypical zombie.

My professor had this to say about the monster's appearance:

"Imagine the most handsome man you can think of. Someone who is well known for being conventionally attractive. That man is now dead, and his head is carefully sewn onto another dead man's torso. All his new body parts are proportionate, but his skin- which has been decaying for who knows how long- has lost all its luster and turned to a yellowish tint. His watery eyes are an unnatural shade of yellow. And he's towering over you at 8ft tall. Is he still handsome?"

"actually it's frankenstein's monster" is he not victor frankenstein's son????? does not he deserve even to receive the surname of the man who gave him life???????????????????? you contrarian bitch.

I wanted to try drawing a more book accurate version of Adam, because I personally interpret him as being REALLY uncanny. Like, Victor specifically chose what he believes to be the most perfect parts of him, right? And if we're playing into his ego and genius a bit, then obviously his work would turn out perfect... TOO perfect, one might say. So beautiful, it makes all those who see him have their fight or flight responses triggered. It looks human... That thing is NOT human.

what once was shunned is put away

wits held to its end have means of making an escape

the morning greets me in the palest gray

and by sunset their is no one who stays

and so you pick up broken bones on your way home

collecting flesh

from the dead left on the side of the road

what no one wants i will learn to need

what not one wants is mine to keep

it exists with no reluctance to become

carefully calculated reproduction

of an anthropomorphic

entity of dysfunction

and so the day has come

hear the sounds of a monsters cry as he's comes undone

like god who destroys his greatest works of art- it's all mine to pull apart

the beat of the heart wouldn't waver

the slowing of breath would not ensue

something ugly towers over the room, it's a nightmare coming true

you're looking into the eyes of a killer but

all that a stranger would see is a creature in the mirror pointing fingers

from this view of the back of your head

you almost look human

i know what you are, i did it all myself
