Y/N: I don't even like kids. They always have jam on their hands. Even when there isn't any jam in the house, they get jam on their hands. I can't deal with jam hands.
i just finished gilmore girls (im obsessed) and i need to put these thoughts somewhere, so here you go.
everyone is always talking about rory's bfs, and im team logan 100%. i think he was the best to and for her. he was an amazing boyfriend and, while he had his flaws, i think he was definitely better than both jess and dean. that being said, if i had to pick a favorite character, jess is high on the list. i prefer his character to logan's. and i think it's because his character exists outside of just being rory's bf.
both dean and logan exist in the show solely to be a part of rory's story. all of the character growth they experience either affects or is affected by her. if a person asked "who is dean/logan?", the answer would be "rory's bf"
jess came into the show not as her love interest, but as luke's nephew. we see him do things that have nothing to do with rory. he is his own character away from her. he is liz's son. he is a top notch walmart employee. he is the troublemaker who drew a chalk body outline on the sidewalk outside of doose's. he's the boy who ran away from stars hollow to go find his father in california. he completely changes as a person from the start to the end of the show, and he made those changes on his own, away from rory. does this make any sense?
(this is not at all a rory hate post, i love her and her character. this is simply a jess appreciation)
I love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i love you Luke i-
CONTRAVERSIAL OPINION
I liked Gilmore Girls: A year in the life
I thought it was very accurate for the characters themselves. Of course, Rory would be going through a period of uncertainty. I actually liked how Lorelei and Emily's relationship progressed over the 4 episodes. I loved Emily's ending.I loved Lorelei doing something as stupid as living in the wild for however long that book or movie was (never read or seen it).
They lost Richard. The whole show starts with them losing Richard, and they're grieving. Of course, they'd all be going through changes. Grief changes you as a person. For Rory, he was her rock, her biggest supporter. It makes sense that it would kind of cause her to spiral further than she already was. Because let's be honest, that girls life was not what she imagined it to be. She probably imagined herself, travelling yes, but having a stable job and writing things that mattered. Not being in an affair with someone who's engaged and being rejected from jobs left, right, and centre. It actually makes sense she'd be in an unhealthy relationship with logan that girl hasn't had a normal relationship. And I like that the season ends with her pregnant it's a very full circle moment.
Lorelei lost her father. It's tough enough to have a strained relationship with your parents, but to lose them without really ever trying to fix that strain is hard. The scene where she's standing looking over the hills and she calls Emily genuinely makes me so emotional everytime.
And guys, Emily's arc over the show was the best. I rewatch it for her. Of course, she would start housing random people. She felt alone after losing her husband. Her granddaughter was always travelling, and her daughter and her didn't have the best relationship. Of course, she'd want to move and leave the DAR. She lost a major person in her life that's painful. I love that she moves to the coast and starts volunteering for a museum, using her history degree. It's so accurate for her, she'd want peace after losing the love of her life. It makes sense that she'd make these changes.
ALSO, I loved that Jess was the one to encourage Rory to write a book. He was the only one (besides Lorelei) who was actively like what the fuck why did you drop out of Yale?
Honestly, I'm glad Dean didn't show up
Lanes arc in the show isn't canon for me. In my mind, she divorced Zac after the kids turned 2 and started her own band, and they're super successful, and she's mega rich.
I liked Paris's arc it's fitting that she'd be a high-powered white feminist smash through the glass ceiling type.
You and I both know that Jess Mariano would’ve loved Arctic Monkeys and it’s offensive that we never got to see him listen to them
Also I still wanna see the shirt flipping Like off. Like really badly.
Luke Danes 💙💙💙
I love this man
honestly gilmore girls is pissing me off rn like hello??? logan is a dumbass and cheated on rory and didn't even say sorry to her and let her walk out of the room, lorelai can't use her mouth and talk about what's bothering her with luke, ZACH JUST FUCKING ASKED LANE TO MARRY HIM LIKE WHAT???
i js wanna go back and watch the seasons of chilton rory and (fuckass bitchass pussy) dean and (the loml amazing wonderful misunderstood) jess and friday night dinners and luke and lorelai slow burn and not suffer 😔
as ive said, im watching gilmore girls rn. and she's with logan and jess js showed up again. and OHHHH MAAAA GAWDDDD HES AMAZING??????? HES NOT A DOUCHEBAG???? AND HES SMART AND HE GOT HIMSELF TOGETHER AND FIXED HIMSELF UP?????? AND HE WROTE A BOOK AND CAME DOWN TO HAND DELIVER IT TO RORYY???????
HE. HAND. DELIVERED. IT. TO. RORY.
JESS SUPREMACY PLEASEEE >>>>>
Binge watching gilmore girls
I feel like people don’t give Jess and luke enough credit for reading that self help book though
Like oh Jess was a better guy in the later seasons. Of course he was but it didn’t like magically happen. He wasn’t ‘fixed’ from dating Rory and like the cozy love of stars hollow didn’t change him into a wide eyed optimist. He literally made an effort to learn how have open communication and be emotionally vulnerable, he self reflected and tried to foster healthy relationships ON PURPOSE he recognised his faults and tried to do better and like you never really see that in guys on tv especially not In the archetype of character he was and like especially not in the early 2000’s. And it wasn’t really played for laughs either Lorelai made a comment and Luke called her out on it said that it’s good what he was trying to do and then we see his and Luke’s relationship heal a bit, we see the positive ramifications.
i finally finished gilmore girls and ayitl. I'm a changed person. i loved the show, but all I do is watch it so I'm glad I'm gonna be productive now. final thoughts:
-i KNOW its lame but being in the life and death brigade sounds so fun
-LUKE AND LORELAI
-jess yes but also jess no
-lanes ending i hate all of the producers
-idc logan would not get engaged just to cheat on someone. yes he's a partyboy but he's still sweet. my theory is that it was pretty much arranged and odette was partying around too.
-was rory supposed to be remembering that creepy scene drunk? bc why did the bird talk
-emilys characters development in ayitl was really good and I think she deserved that
-also i never realized how alike alexis and kelly look??
-LANE :(
-Luke and lorelai married yay!!!!
-why couldnt christopher have died instead of bbg richard
-paris and doyle should have been forever!! i also lowkey loved how good of a mother Paris was. she never had a role model of that but her kids still adored her. AND, her motherhood wasn't her only trait!! she was still a doctor
-lorelai would have never been upset abt the book
-the hiking thing? what??
-the scene where lorelai called emily ugh i love
-rory should have talked bad abt dean in the book
-the ending did not happen idc. the last episode of season seven was so good why did they have to ruin it???
sorry for typos....
Watching Gilmore Girls for the first time while having almost every major event spoiled for you already is the most awful experience bc I just met april :(
