Spn Season 1 - Blog Posts

every episode I rewatch, I don't remember what happens based on the name, but in the first five minutes of the ep something makes me go "ohhh, this one. I remember this." e.g. I just started 01x11 'scarecrow' and immediately when I saw the forest I remembered what happens, like the ep flashed through in my mind.

I don't get why people keep comparing the Dean and Kevin Tran scenes where they figure out someone is actually a demon.

The scene from season 1 where Dean figures out his dad was really a demon possessing him, and the scene where Kevin figures out the demons acting like Dean and Sam aren't really them.

Kevin realizes it's not the Winchesters when the demons were doing everything he asked. He asked for lunch, they brought him lunch. They went out and got him things and they were politer then the real Sam and Dean. Really, to me, it was a comedic moment, because they (mostly Dean) can act like a jerk without meaning to. (It reminds me of older siblings being annoying to a younger sibling) Not because they don't care about Kevin but because Dean naturally comes off that way. They do care about him and show obvious concern when he wasn't eating and sleeping enough.

When Dean realizes his dad was really a demon it was because the demon didn't yell at him, scold him, and be mad that he 'wasted' a bullet saving Sam. Instead the demon told him he was proud, like a good dad would. However, John isn't a good dad. He was emotionally abusive and he was neglectful, maybe even physically abusive. He forced Dean to act like a parent since he was four. He trained him to be a soldier and then abandoned him and Sam at the beginning of season 1.

These scenes are similar because they both involve demons and both involve someone realizing they are a demon. However, they are not comparable. One involved Dean and Sam acting like assholes (affectionate). One involved child abuse.

(ALSO, When Crowley was like, "my demons were too nice?", it made me laugh out loud.)

Dean wants to fix Sam’s pain so bad, but doesn’t quite know how to help his brother now. Their relationship at first kind of reminds me of Mary’s uncertainty with how to deal with the boys when she came back (obviously a much different context and relationship but idk)

A guy who weirdly started asking about the murder of your boyfriend and then randomly keeps showing up whenever people die is lurking outside of your house late at night and your response is to tell him you think his stalking is cute and then kiss him?🧐

Wait so if the idea of shooting rock salt to repel spirits was a new concept to Sam in 1x07, what did dean shoot the woman in white with? Normal bullets? Or was it rock salt and he just didn’t feel like explaining that to Sam?

So was loris roommate already dead? She seemed to move when Lori came in? Why did the scratches on the wall say aren’t you glad you didn’t turn on the light if the roommate was still alive when Lori came in that night?

Something I’ve noticed in the early episodes is that dean uses “well dad would do this” etc. to convince Sam to hunt or take on a case and I wonder why. Sam and John weren’t on great terms at this point, so I don’t feel like Sam would be persuaded by the fact that his dad would have done such and such. Of course both still have immense respect for their dad as a hunter, so maybe that’s why. But I wonder if dean feels that he’s not worthy, so to speak, to be the reason Sam is persuaded to do something. If dean doesn’t see himself as important enough to Sam for deans opinion to sway Sam. Which obviously isn’t the case but the brother dynamics in the first season are so interesting in light of having watched future seasons.
