Volcanoes National Park, Hawai'i. Clouds racing over Halema'uma'u Crater. The Kilauea Volcano is constantly erupting and one of the best places to see the Caldera is from the Jaggar Museum Overlook (named after M.I.T. Geologist, Thomas A. Jaggar). Despite a stabilized tripod and trying to shield the camera with my body, the winds were so fierce that there is still considerable shake in the time lapse. #Wonchi #Crater Lake (also known as #Wenchi) is situated about 93 miles (150km) southwest of Addis Ababa near the town of Woliso. #Descending and #ascending is done via miniature #mules which the local guides state is the only legal way to travel within the #caldera. In the middle of the crater lake is the St. #Chirkos #monastery, nestled on one of the tiny islands scattered about the crater lake. This is one of my favorite photos, although lacking photographic merit, it reminds me of my first trip to the #continent of #Africa. After two weeks of site evaluations and meetings with numerous local hospital staffs, the lead medical officer of our team, with a glazed look of exhaustion in his spectacled eyes, said "we need to see some animals..." and with less than 24 hours before our return flight to the USA, we booked a guide service, clamored into a minibus and sped to #Ngorongoro #Crater. The remaining #caldera of an extinct #volcano , Ngorongoro is an #oasis for wildlife and a #bucketlist #safari destination. Predators and prey stock this amazing landscape that has served as a backdrop for #Hollywood classics such as #Hatari with John Wayne.
